πŸ’ƒ Dance for Colombia

A full day of movement, music and community β€” currently taking shape in Toronto.

We’re exploring a fundraiser built around the music and dances that connect Toronto with Colombia and Latin America. Salsa, rhythm, percussion, reggaeton β€” and whatever our community helps us add next.

Nothing below is being presented as a confirmed booking yet. Anne is exploring instructors, musicians and spaces now. If you have an idea, a connection or something you can contribute, we want to hear it.

Possible program

What the day could look like

01

Salsa class

A community salsa class with instructor(s) to be confirmed. One possibility is Van teaching alongside another instructor.

02

Salsa rhythm & percussion

Anne has a percussionist in mind for a class focused on rhythm and percussion for salsa. Instructor and format to be confirmed.

03

Reggaeton

A reggaeton class is another idea. Colombian choreographer and dance teacher Carolyn Mae is someone Anne would like to approach; she is not currently listed as participating.

04

Social dancing / community finale

A chance to bring everyone together after the workshops. Format, music and timing are still open.

Venue

We need a home for it

Anne has already started asking about venue rental. AfroLatino Dance Company is one possible space being considered, along with other Toronto studios and event spaces. A donated or discounted venue would allow more of what we raise to reach the cause.

Contribute

Help build the day

Teach a class, lend a studio, play music, photograph the day, help with sound, volunteer, contribute a prize or introduce us to someone who can.
